Wild Boar Class
Welcome to Year 5 and 6
Teacher: Mr J Newman
Teaching Assistants: Mrs A Assirati
PE
Children can wear their PE kits to school on Tuesdays. They can wear jogging bottoms and will still need their school jumper to keep warm in class.
Reading
Daily reading is essential for your child's progress. Children are encouraged to read aloud to an adult as often as possible; please listen to them read, ask questions and read to them to model good expression. Please encourage them to also read independently and write a record of this in their reading record - this is expected as part of their weekly homework. Children should keep notes in their reading records themselves, but please feel free to add a note yourself. Children are able to take a book home from school if needed and they are given opportunities to change these books each week.
Maths
Children have been given usernames and passwords to TTRockstars an online maths game that will help them to develop their maths skills. TT Rockstars will develop their mental maths skills with multiplication and division.
Homework
Every Tuesday children will get at least one piece of homework, usually maths and/or English, but it may also link to children’s topic work. This needs to be completed by the following Monday. Spare copies and help are always available so please encourage your children to check their homework for any questions so they can come and see us if they need to before the weekend.
Water Bottles and Snacks
Juniors are not provided with fruit. As we are a healthy school, it is suggested that your child brings in a piece of fruit or vegetables (e.g. carrot sticks) for their snack. Anything other than fruit or vegetables is not able to be eaten as their snack.
Water bottles should be named. Children are encouraged to stay hydrated and their bottles can be refilled throughout the school day. Bottles will be sent home at the end of the day to be cleaned.
Biking - Follow My Lead
The children will take part in biking sessions with Follow My Lead every Thursday. They will need to wear tracksuit bottoms or leggings, with normal uniform on top. They may also need gloves in colder weather. They do not need to bring in helmets.
